Model-based comparison of sequencing batch reactors and continuous-flow activated sludge processes for biological wastewater treatment

Abstract This study compares, based on mathematical modelling, continuous-flow activated sludge processes (CAS) and sequencing batch reactors (SBR). The steady-state or periodic of CAS SBR is compared for a feed composed readily slowly biodegradable substrates, carbon nitrogen removal. simulations are carried out different values the SRT (solids residence time), HRT (hydraulic number cycles internal recycle. If large enough, can remove influent COD completely, while has residual effluent concentration. For removal, ammonia completely typical operating parameters, gives higher total removal than SBR, which becomes comparable to only per day.
